The FDA has announced updated regulations for gluten-free labeling effective mid-2026. The new rules lower the allowable gluten threshold from 20 ppm to 10 ppm for products labeled 'gluten-free,' aligning US standards more closely with international standards. Additionally, manufacturers must now test finished products rather than just ingredients. Oat-based products must be tested for avenin content. These changes represent the most significant update to GF labeling since the original 2013 rule and will affect thousands of products on store shelves.
